Make Music Rochester is modeled after a Parisian tradition (Fête de la Musique) that began in 1982 as a tribute to the Summer Solstice. More specifically, each June 21st Paris is filled with musicians of all kinds performing on sidewalks, lawns, balconies, in parks, etc. for anyone to enjoy at no cost. In 2007, Fête de la Musique crossed the Atlantic with the debut of Make Music New York. Ever since, cities around the world have been starting their own Make Music days. In fact, in 2016 there were 38 North American cities that gave 3,238 concerts at 1,078 locations…all on a single day!
In 2017, our founding members felt it was time this beautiful celebration come to Rochester!! We hope that this sort of “pop-up”/”organic” event will help activate spaces that are frequently overlooked (i.e. lawns, parks) and play a role in strengthening the Rochester community.
Join us for the fourth annual Make Music Rochester happening virtually on Sunday, June 21, 2020 from 11am to 11pm!! All Ages | Free
None of this would be possible without our gracious host organization, the Community Design Center Rochester.
