Make Music
Rochester

Participate (VIRTUALLY!)

Thanks for your interest in Make Music Rochester 2020! We’re excited to announce that we will be bringing the music VIRTUALLY this year.  What does that mean? Well, the basics are the same: celebrating the summer solstice and fostering community along with 1000+ cities globally through free music making by all. The only difference is we can’t be physically gathered in groups for the 2020 celebration given current events.  Read the official Make Music Alliance press release here.

We have set up four main virtual stages for your performances:

VIRTUAL STAGE The base of our online music festival. Sign up with this venue to have your performances on 6/21/20 on our general line-up.

SENIOR RECITAL STAGE A spot specifically for 2020 grads to post or livestream their senior recitals. Register with this venue to have your recital (or other special senior year performance) included in our recital line-up.

MASS APPEALS STAGE Where we will list all our Mass Appeals, which bring together groups of musicians (of all levels and ages) to make music in large, single-instrument groups. Many of these are global events. Instructions will be listed within each instrument group on how to participate. NOTE: We are not accepting requests for new instrument groups through the Gemini matchmaking site.  Please email rochester@makemusicday.org to suggest a new instrument group.

SPECIAL PROJECTS STAGE Where we will list all our Special Projects, which bring people together to participate in unique music-related activities! Many of these are global events. Instructions will be listed within each instrument group on how to participate. NOTE: We are not accepting requests for new projects through the Gemini matchmaking site.  Please email rochester@makemusicday.org to suggest a new project.

Register here to access all of these stages as a performer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I make my own virtual stage? Yes, but first review the four main virtual stages we have and see if your performance or event would fit within one of those. If you review them and think your performance or set of performances requires its own unique venue, please follow the Gemini How-to instructions.

Do I need to register to participate? No! The benefit of registration through Gemini is that your performance will be listed and promoted by us ahead of time. But you’re welcome to just play on your porch for passersby (heck, even just for yourself!!), record and post a performance, or livestream all on your own. If you do post, please use #makemusicroc and #makemusicday so we can find and share them on our own social media.

Can there be overlapping performances registered for the same virtual stage? Yes! As long as the events have their own unique links you are good to overlap. If you request a time that already has one or more performances, a message will pop up letting you know — just go ahead and say you still want to request that time. We will approve it!
